MOHAWK-HUDSON SECTION MEETINGS FOR 2019-2020

September 18 - Tour of STS Steel Facility, STS steel fabricates bridges for various Departments of Transportation, including New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The tour will be followed by dinner in Druthers Brewing Co. located at 221 Harborside Drive, Schenectady, NY 12305.

October 15 - This presentation will highlight real world examples, and quality issues facing people today. It will also discuss how Computed Tomography with rotating target tube technology is being used to improve results, allowing production of better products in additive manufacturing, electronics, composites, castings, and many other areas. Speaker, Wesley F. Wren is the director of global sales with Avonix Imaging, and has vast experience in X-ray, Computed Tomography, and global management. November 5 - Electric Flight: 1883 to 2050, speaker Dr. Jesse Aronstein, Where are we now? Where are we headed? Practical electric-powered airplanes have arrived! The technology underlying modern hybrid and all-electric automobiles is being applied to airplanes. Dr. Jesse Aronstein holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Science. Currently he is a consulting engineer He has authored more than 25 technical papers related to electrical contact and connection technology. December 10 - Speaker Alexander Brown, Baker Hughes (formerly GE) Inspection Technologies, "Advances in Remote Visual Inspection", meeting at the Van Dyck Restaurant & Lounge 237 Union Street, Schenectady, NY 12305.

January 21 - Dr. Vijay Nalladega works in the Nondestructive Evaluation Lab in Structural Materials at GE Global Research, Niskayuna NY. This talk will give an overview of IR thermography for NDE applications and will discuss different applications of IR thermography within GE for both Manufacturing and Services.

On January 21, 2019, the Mohawk-Hudson meeting consisted of dinner and a presentation by Dr. Vijay Nalladega on Infrared (IR) thermography for NDE.

Infrared (IR) thermography is one of the emerging nondestructive evaluation methods that has wide applications in many industries, including Aviation and Power. Thermography methods are faster, non-contact and are provide wide area inspection with applications such as detecting delaminations in composites, inspection of coatings, detection of cracks, quantitative measurements of wall thickness. This talk gave an overview of IR thermography for NDE applications and discussed different applications of IR thermography within GE for both Manufacturing and Services. Details of different modalities of IR inspection methods and examples of different types of defects detected were provided.
